A World Championship is one of the biggest events in sport, and there is no room for error. For such a large event to run seamlessly, there is a huge apparatus that must function in the background of what happens on the court.

For the final rounds of the Handball World Championship in Trondheim Spektrum in December, we have delivered a large and efficient solution, as well as a highly skilled team to ensure that everything runs smoothly.

Leading this team is Depot Supervisor, Alexsander Stokdal Nilsen. He took the time to talk to us about the project in Trondheim Spektrum, and can tell us about a comprehensive delivery, an exciting project, and custom-built systems.

The solution was an application where the batteries are synced with the main grid and start automatically in the event of a power outage. Alexsander goes on to explain that they found a very good solution to the challenge;

– The solution we ended up delivering was to run a hybrid system with three batteries and generators in parallel with the main grid. To do this, we needed a separate control system for the main switchboard, which also had to be able to communicate with our devices. Here, we simply had to build and implement a control cabinet specially designed for this type of application against the main switchboard,” Alexsander explains.

In total, three 400 kVA batteries were delivered from Pon Energy Rental. This is a new battery unit with a separate input and output inverter that enables different voltage and frequency on input and output. Connections of the PowerLock type were also supplied for these, which makes the connection very efficient.

– “In addition to this, we also supplied a 500 kVA generator with a Caterpillar C15 engine, a control cabinet for the main switchboard, a distribution cabinet equipped with PowerLock quick connection, 6x400A outlets and a total of 74 cable bridges,” Alexsander explains.

“You need a lot of cables to operate such a large system. In total, a set of 50-meter cable sets with PowerLock quick connectors, six 25 meter cable sets with the same quick connectors, nine 240 mm2 power cables with M12 bolts at both ends, cables for control systems and other types of cables were delivered and connected well in advance of the drop-off in Trondheim.
