Following new demands from the government, the construction industry has undergone a shift in the sustainable equation. The world’s first zero-emission construction site has already been launched as a test project, and more and more companies are joining the electric fleet.
The construction industry currently accounts for as much as 30 percent of total global emissions and is a known environmental polluter. It is also an industry with strict reporting requirements, which means that there is good documentation of emissions of hazardous greenhouse gases.
We know that as much as 80 percent of emissions are indirect, through the production of materials and transportation, which gives us a good place to start on the journey towards lower emission values in the construction industry. Here we will present to you what demands are now being made in this industry, and how we at Pon Energy Rental can and want to be part of this shift.
New zero emissions requirements by 2030
The Norwegian government and several urban municipalities have set a goal for building and construction activities to be fossil-free or emission-free by 2025. The world’s first emission-free construction site in Oslo was already a fact in 2020, which means we already have the tools to achieve this goal.
Now it’s about utilizing the expertise and technology that already exists in the industry, so that we can find good and sustainable solutions for the use of power solutions. At Pon Energy Rental, we have a fleet of machines that can meet these requirements, so that contractors and developers can realize the dream of emission-free construction sites.
Norway is the world leader in sales of electric vehicles and electric construction machinery. At Pon Energy Rental, we want to charge the fossil-free construction sites of the future. Enova is also focusing on emission-free building and construction sites. Here, they provide financial support for projects that include the use of district heating, electrical solutions and construction machinery. This makes it possible and less risky for more contractors to come up with good solutions.
The construction industry is also required to report its emissions, both direct emissions from machinery and practical work, but also the indirect emissions that come from the manufacturing of materials and transportation. This helps companies to get a more accurate picture of their emissions. With the use of new and electric machines, electric transportation, and other emission reporting guidelines, it is an achievable goal to have an emission-free industry by 2025.
Pon Energy Rental towards an emission-free fleet
Pon Equipment built an electrically powered excavator early on, and it was part of the world’s first zero-emission construction site in 2020.
This shows that we at Pon already have the expertise to better utilize existing solutions and be a leading player in the market for sustainable construction equipment and zero-emission construction sites. We complement these products with mobile charging solutions where needed.
Mobile car chargers
With us, you can already find the highly practical and environmentally friendly mobile electric car chargers. These can be set up at any construction site, allowing vehicles, machines and other items to be charged between shifts. This way, you can also switch to an electric car fleet for your employees on their way to and return from projects.
These mobile electric car chargers come with an eSIM that allows you to remotely control the device from a PC or mobile phone using the Easee app. They have built-in WiFi to make managing the device even easier. The charger can be connected in series, and they then distribute the available power between them.
The charger has an RFiD reader that makes it possible to grant access to the charger with, for example, an HSE card. Using access control, you can collect detailed consumption reports that make it possible to charge each user correctly for their consumption. This also means that reporting on zero-emission solutions is far easier.
Energy solutions
With the new generators from Caterpillar, we can offer the latest standard that combines low emissions and low fuel consumption. The machines are equipped with the latest catalyst technology combined with an active filtration system for particles.
With our supplier, we have also developed a battery container with a nominal energy capacity of 442 kWh that can be used for many different applications such as optimizing an efficient energy use, UPS function, microgrid participation or even frequency and power conversion since it can be used with both 50 and 60 Hz. Something that makes this battery unique is the Volt conversion, which goes from 280 to 690 V.
Electrical systems for cooling and heating
Pon Energy Rental has now introduced an all-electric heat pump that delivers both hot and cold air to temporary buildings and solutions. This heat pump has a capacity of 50 kW and can be used stand-alone or connected to other units. It is easy to transport and move, easy to use and environmentally friendly.
In addition to this, we have now also introduced cooling towers that deliver liquid cooling with very low energy consumption. The new line of chillers combines high energy efficiency with more sustainable and lower coolant volumes. These can also be used stand-alone or in combination with other units and have a built-in pump.
Both our heating and cooling systems are a perfect solution for both large and small buildings. They are simple to use, yet highly efficient.
New developments in the upcoming years
For us at Pon Energy Rental, the ideas and products are lining up to enter the market. So far, we have launched the products mentioned above, but that is far from the end of the list. We want to be at the forefront of the market and to achieve this, we must continue to develop both expertise and technology in the years ahead.
We constantly have new products in production so that we can continue to offer our customers the best sustainable and most energy-efficient rental solutions, both now and in the future. More information about our products can be found here, or you can contact us for a friendly chat. Our engineers are ready to help you tailor a solution that suits your business and your project.
