Back-up power for hospital
The St. Franciscus Hospital, located in Rotterdam, The Netherlands, sent us a request due to their need of temporary back-up power during the exchange of their Emergency Power installation.
On the 10th-12th of November, the switchboard at the hospital in Egersund, Norway was scheduled to be replaced. The switchboard was installed when the hospital was built in the early 1970s, so it was time for an upgrade. This posed a challenge for the hospital, which would have been without power for long periods, which is not optimal for a hospital. To ensure that patients and staff had access to power, we provided a temporary back-up solution.
The main switchboard at the hospital was built to the standard of the time, and could be dangerous to touch, which meant that the hospital’s operating personnel could not access the room without an electrician following them. In the summer, a power failure occurred and a serious fault was discovered in the main switch. Following a safety analysis and measures were taken to ensure that the main switch could not be operated during the next power failure, and a new main switchboard was ordered.
Once the planning and risk analysis was completed, a precise schedule and resource plan was created to ensure operations and power supply throughout the replacement. To avoid downtime, they contacted us at Pon Energy Rental for a temporary power solution. For the actual replacement, the area was rigged with power from our 500kVA generator. On November 12, the work to replace the board was completed and the temporary power solution was disconnected.
