Power supply for submarine
We at Pon Energy Rental, in collaboration with JSL Shipping & Agency, delivered a complete and reliable energy solution to an American submarine docked in Reykjavik, Iceland.
In July 2021, the Waterschap Rivierenland assigned the dike reinforcement project between Tiel and Waardenburg to the construction consortium Mekante Diek. Our client, Van Oord, is one of the participating companies in this consortium. The project aims to reinforce over 19 kilometers of dike infrastructure.
The dike runs alongside both Natura 2000 nature reserves and residential areas, which posed specific challenges in terms of sustainability and emission reduction. To meet these demands, approximately 40 heavy electric machines were deployed. In cooperation with Betuwewind, a fast-charging hub was developed. To maximize the use of electric excavators, it was necessary to integrate mobile batteries with fast chargers. These batteries store energy from the charging hub and distribute it to the machinery in the field.
We supplied two complete sets, each consisting of one battery combined with a fast charger. The batteries each have a capacity of 442 kWh, and the fast chargers are equipped with two CCS-2 charging connectors, enabling charging up to 360 kW. To ensure smooth transportation of the sets, we developed two custom trailers in collaboration with Van Oord. These allow the charging solutions to be moved safely and fully electrically from the charging hub to the excavators.
The project has provided valuable insights that contribute to the further development of our fleet. However, the most important result is our contribution to the emission-free execution of this large-scale dike reinforcement a major step forward in sustainable equipment deployment.
